Great achievement by Phil Davies with a 3rd place finish in the 60+ age Group at the World 70.3 Champs. Strong race too from Brian Corff in the hugely competitive 40-45 age group where he finished in 30th spot and good races too from Trystan Ayrton, Kath Smallcombe, Nathan Dortman and Leah Bennettes

With a dozen athletes racing at the Noosa running festival I was glad to be back to some better running form with a 1.21 half marathon closely followed by Deepak, Brian, Phil, and Luke. We set out to average 3.50 pace and I was happy to come in with a 3.49 average and mission accomplished. There were 6 personal records broken by Next Level Athletes and 4 podium finishers.

This year there was a quality field racing in the Olympic distance National Championships with double points on off for those athletes looking to qualify for the Australian Team to race at the Worlds in September.

Phil Davies was 1st, as he has been all season, in the 60-64 age category and will line up later in the year as a genuine medal contender. Hannah Hammill placed 3rd in the 15-19 age group and after a last minute entry I jagged 2nd place and maybe sufficient points from the one race to make the Australian team. There were another 14 Next Level athletes racing, some for the first time over the distance, and there were plenty of PR’s despite the tough conditions.

Next stop will be Port Macquarie where we will have 17 athletes racing the 70.3 and Ironman distance
